Central African bishops condemn Congo violence, call for international

CWN - September 27, 2012

Citing grave human rights violations, the Central African Bishops Conference (ACEAC) has condemned the violence in the eastern portion of the Democratic Republic of the Congo associated with the rise of the March 23 Movement, a rebel group.

The bishops decried the ?killings, rapes, recruitment of children in the various armies, forced displacement of populations, inhospitable refugee camps, and anarchic exploitation of mineral resources? and called for ?an intervention of the international community in favor of the affected civil populations, to ensure their protection from the fighting.?
