The companies recognized today include: Nutek Green, a division of Hoover?s, Inc. Seventh Generation ; Betcha Corp. ; Delete Lam Packaging, Inc. DuPont Corporation ; ElastiKote , Green Earth Technologies , National Industries for the Blind Agencies (Lighthouse for the Blind, St.Merrigan made the announcement during a meeting of organic products held in Hoover, Inc. Glenwillow, Ohio. Only some of the products labeled BioPreferred presented today includes soaps and hand sanitizers hands, herbal food packaging plastic used for packaging of fresh foods, a range of organic cleaning products, motor oils and lubricants, fibers organic and spun into carpet and clothes.
With the implementation of the program BioPreferred, the USDA has identified 5,100 biobased products for preferred procurement by Federal agencies. The new label will allow the identification of these products easier for federal government buyers and increase awareness of these high-value products to consumers. The USDA estimates there are 20,000 products from renewable sources produced in the United States.
Deputy Agriculture Secretary Kathleen Merrigan announced today the first 60 products that consumers will soon be in stores across the country with the new USDA BioPreferred product label for certified organic products.
Today?s announcement follows the launch in January of 2011, the voluntary certification and labeling of organic products of the USDA. One hundred companies have applied for about 400 products for certification since the effort began two months ago.
