Missouri City hosts grand opening for recreation center | Fort Bend ...

By Betsy Dolan

Missouri City is set to open the first part of its multi-million dollar plan to offer recreational amenities to all residents with the grand opening of its $4.5 million Tennis and Recreation Center at 2701 Cypress Point Drive on Saturday, July 14 with a free public open house.? ?The city is also preparing to open the $8 million community center and golf pro shop, recently named City Centre at Quail Valley, later this summer.

The project is part of the city council?s commitment to enhance the Texas Parkway corridor and they are hoping it will be a draw for other commercial properties to move into the area. The 25,000 square foot tennis and recreation facility will include 13 resurfaced tennis courts, batting cages, an oversized gym, a Kids Zone, indoor turf area, multipurpose rooms and 3,000 square feet of space designated for cardio and weightlifting equipment.

?Most cities have some sort of recreation center for their residents but Missouri City didn?t have anything like that,? said Shane Mize, Missouri City?s Recreation Superintendent. ?This will offer residents a place to work out, bring back the tennis that Quail Valley used to offer and really add something to the community that hasn?t been here in the past.?

Monthly rates for Missouri City residents are $25 per month for adults, $15 per month for seniors and $40 for families. Monthly non-resident rates are $35 for adults, $18 for seniors and $45 for families. Tennis court usage fees for the general public will be $6 per 90 minutes. In addition, current members of the existing Community Center will receive six months of free membership at the new Recreation and Tennis Center to reward their loyalty.

The grand opening will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will include tours of the facility, various sports clinics, demonstrations of zumba, yoga, cheerleading and?tumbling, nutritional advice, a tennis match between Stafford?s mayor and Missouri City?s mayor Pro Tem.? Former NFL players and?sports radio 790 as well as a farmer?s market and free gifts will also be available for attendees.

Mize wins National Award

Shane Mize, Missouri City?s Recreation Superintendent, is?the recipient of the National Recreation? Association?s Young Professional of the Year award.? He was given the award, in part, for his work soliciting feedback from residents in developing the new recreation facility.
